IEP – Instituto Electrotécnico Português is offering the Advanced High Voltage Course: Equipment, Techniques and Testing, a specialised training programme aimed at professionals and engineers seeking to deepen their knowledge of Electrical Power Systems and technologies associated with high voltage.

The increasing complexity of electrical grids, driven by the integration of renewable energy sources, the modernisation of energy infrastructure, and growing demands for reliability and safety, makes advanced technical skills in the operation, diagnosis, and testing of high-voltage equipment increasingly essential.

Over 40 hours of training, participants will explore the main theoretical concepts and practical applications related to:

• Generation and measurement of AC, DC and impulse voltages;
• Insulation coordination and overvoltages;
• Testing of high-voltage equipment;
• Partial discharges and dielectric properties;
• Interpretation and application of IEC, IEEE and CIGRÉ standards.

One of the key distinguishing features of this training programme is its strong practical laboratory component, developed at the High Voltage Laboratories of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

Participants will have the opportunity to perform real tests, assemble laboratory circuits and critically analyse experimental results using specialised high-voltage generation and measurement equipment.

The programme also includes power-frequency tests, lightning and switching impulse tests, partial discharge measurements, dielectric loss factor measurements, and the use of advanced measurement systems in a laboratory environment.

This training is aimed at electrical engineers, senior energy and maintenance technicians, professionals working in electrical testing laboratories, quality and diagnostic specialists, professionals from energy transmission and distribution companies, researchers, lecturers, and anyone interested in the field of high voltage.

Duration: 40 hours, during working hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
