Hitachi Energy, an ANIMEE member, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Daikin Industries aimed at securing, over the long term, the supply of C4-FN – an essential component of the insulating gas mixture used in high-voltage equipment that does not rely on sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆).

SF₆ is a gas with an extremely high global warming potential, but it remains widely used in high-voltage equipment due to its insulation and current-interruption properties. Its gradual replacement is now an unavoidable requirement for the decarbonization of electricity grids.

In Portugal, as in the rest of Europe, the advance of electrification, the growing integration of renewable energy, and the need to reinforce power grids make the availability of reliable, lower-environmental-impact high-voltage solutions especially relevant. With this agreement, Hitachi Energy makes a valuable contribution to accelerating this transition, while at the same time strengthening the autonomy and supply security of critical technologies that Europe needs so much.

Putting this commitment into practice, Hitachi Energy already has a proven technological alternative: EconiQ technology, which offers technical performance, reliability, and dimensions comparable to SF₆-based equipment, and which has already received more than 4,000 orders from 40 countries.

Hitachi Energy has been present in Portugal since 1961 and, with this agreement, reaffirms its commitment to a more sustainable, secure, and competitive electricity system.
