In September, ANIMEE visited the Kemet facility in Évora, a factory with more than 25 years of industrial history in the region that today stands as a global reference in the production of electrolytic capacitors.

Established in Évora since 1998, the factory has undergone successive transformations throughout its history. In 2020, it was fully acquired by the Yageo group, a multinational headquartered in Taiwan, becoming part of one of the world’s largest electronic components companies.

Once dedicated exclusively to the production of tantalum capacitors, the Évora facility still maintains a high-end tantalum production line today, but has diversified strongly into aluminum electrolytic capacitors — a segment in which the Portuguese factory has become a global reference within the group.

Évora is also home to the EIC – Electrolytic Innovation Center, the center that leads Kemet’s innovation in the field of electrolytics, with a team of around 30 engineers and additional presence in Nantong and Shanghai, China.

The factory currently employs more than 300 people and is preparing to expand its production capacity: two new production lines will soon come into operation, the result of a significant investment made in 2026.

The Évora facility mainly supplies clients in Europe and the United States, with a strong focus on the automotive industry. Globally, the KEMET brand is recognized as a trusted supplier of components for sectors such as transportation, medicine, aviation, communications, and consumer goods production.

With this visit, ANIMEE strengthens its knowledge of and closeness to one of its members, highlighting the role of the electronic components industry in Portugal’s technological and industrial value chain.
